Sports Briefs: Pacifics ready for homestead after humbling loss

The division-leading San Rafael Pacifics were humbled by the last-place Martinez Sturgeon, 18-5, in Tuesday’s road game.

San Rafael starter Owen Cuffe entered the game with a 2.89 ERA, but gave up seven runs on eight hits while walking four batters in just four innings. The bullpen offered little relief as Jason Hartwick gave up 11 runs on eight hits and five walks.

The Pacifics managed just five hits, led by left fielder John Bicos with a 2-for-3 night.

San Rafael, now 26-13 in the Pecos League Pacific Division, opens a three-game homestand at Albert Park on Thursday against Marysville, followed by games against Martinez and Vallejo.
