What’s on this weekend
Festival season continues as we descend further into the summer calendar and this weekend there are more funky, musical events to enjoy in the city, the villages and the suburbs. Here’s a selection of exciting events happening this Friday, Saturday and Sunday around Cyprus.
Returning for a celebratory 10th edition is the Windcraft Music Fest. On Saturday and Sunday, flocks of people will head to Katydata village in the Nicosia district to enjoy this anniversary festival edition. Musicians from abroad and all corners of the island will perform in the evening while throughout the days, a series of workshops will entertain visitors of all ages and backgrounds. The workshops are free to attend as is the exhibition and some of the concerts while the performances happening in the Orchard stage have ticketed entry.
Over in Limassol, Nea Kinisi will present its 21st Summer Dance Festival this Friday, Saturday and Sunday with free site-specific performances. A three-day celebration of contemporary dance will fill the city centre of Limassol as artists present urban installations and performances. What’s more, a series of parallel activities, free to attend, will run simultaneously to bring together the artistic community and the public. Think live podcast talks, a breakfast gathering and a street party!
Paphos residents and visitors will also get to enjoy live music this weekend as well. On July 12, Technopolis 20 will host the Sunset Ragas event, an evening dedicated to Indian Classical Music featuring Dr Markus Schmidt on sitar and Ravi Saundankar on tabla.
The duo will present a selection of Indian Classical sunset melodies, specific ragas that are associated with particular times of the day. Performing these ragas at the appropriate time is believed to amplify the energy of nature and release their healing power.
Lastly, the Hill View Restaurant in Pissouri will welcome The Kicker Band to its floor on Friday night which will perform live jazz music with the sounds of the saxophone, the drums, the guitar and the double bass. Enjoy!
