We didn't have a strict plan nor a specific place to stay, but we did know we wanted to observe the night sky from this well-known dark sky region. This made the trip somewhat adventurous and full of surprises. We spent three nights here, but the weather seemed to be against us. On our second night, we went to sleep with heavy rain and even hail. However, just after midnight we awoke to a clear sky. We ran to the open field close by and quickly set up our equipment. The departing storm had caused a black out in the region, further darkening the already nearly black night sky. This view of the Milky Way loomed before our very eyes -- approximates a naked eye view of the night sky from Bortle 2/3 skies. Photo taken on April 14, 2024.
