The Private Schools Owners Association of Malawi (PRISAM) has urged the government to include teachers from private schools in the training programmes for the new curriculum.

PRISAM president Ernest Kaonga made this request on Wednesday while appearing before the Parliamentary Committee on Education on how best they can help in the development of education in the country.

Kaonga who was in company of Wycliffe Chimwendo, leader of the Independent Schools Association of Malawi (ISAMA), emphasized the need for private school teachers to receive training, citing that many are not well-equipped to handle the new curriculum.

Kaonga highlighted the importance of registering private schools, noting that some operate despite significant shortcomings.

However, he assured the committee that PRISAM is committed to supporting the government in ensuring that only qualified schools are allowed to operate, ultimately enhancing the quality of education in Malawi.
