THIS is the shocking moment a boy racer smashes his car into a crowd at a car meet.
Horrifying footage shows how Albert Hall, 22, lost control of his Mazda as it careered into people standing on a nearby pavement in Alwalton, Cambridgeshire.
He and fellow car nut Jaymie Currie, 26, were ‘drifting’ – a motorsport technique where the driver oversteers on purpose while maintaining control – around a roundabout when cops were called.
Hall’s Mazda hit onlookers, causing serious injuries to one man’s head and leg.
Police were handed footage of the incident on September 2 which shows a silver BMW driven by Currie sliding round the bend, followed by Hall’s out-of-control Mazda.
Hall, of Stanwick, Wellingborough, Northants, was charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving in relation to the collision with the pedestrian.
He has admitted the offence in court and is awaiting sentencing.
Currie was already known to road cops, having previously been warned about his driving.
On July 1 last year, he was caught on video drifting around a roundabout at speed in a black BMW 320D with pedestrians watching in Werrington, Peterborough.
At the time he was issued with an official warning, telling him that if he or the BMW was found to be involved in further anti-social behaviour, it could be seized.
Two months later, on the September 2 incident, police were called out to a car meet in Waterworth Road, Alwalton, after a purple Mazda MX5 collided with a pedestrian.
While there, video footage was passed to the officers of a silver BMW 320D drifting round a roundabout seconds before the collision.
Currie was identified as the driver and issued his second section 59 warning within a 12-month period, meaning the car was seized.
The vehicle was examined and several major defects were found, making it unroadworthy, dangerous to drive and in such poor condition it wouldn’t have passed an MOT.
Currie, of Earls Court, Fletton, was interviewed and charged with driving a motor vehicle dangerously after he admitted being the driver of the silver BMW and changing its wheels.
He claimed he was unaware of the other defects.
He appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Friday June 28, where he was disqualified from driving for 18 months.
He will also be required to pass an extended re-test before regaining his licence after admitting a charge of dangerous driving.
Additionally, he will have to complete a 20-day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement (RAR) and 140 hours of unpaid work.
PC James Goose, from the Road Policing Unit (RPU) of Cambridgeshire Constabulary, said: “Currie has shown a blatant disregard for other road users by driving in a dangerous and anti-social manner, and is very lucky there was no collision which could have been fatal to onlookers, himself, or other road users.
“I hope whilst disqualified he can take time to reflect on his actions and learn from this when it comes to completing the extended retest.
“Car meets have been a problem in Peterborough for some time and they are something that RPU alongside other departments have been tackling.
“Although these events are often intended to be good-natured for car enthusiasts, they can also become incredibly dangerous and can cause damage to the roads as well as potentially putting the community at risk.”
