Love Island confirms huge schedule shake-up to avoid clash with Euros final

LOVE Island will air at a different time on Sunday night to avoid a clash with the Euros final.

The ITV2 reality show usually screens at 9pm, which would pit it directly against England‘s 8pm kick-off versus Spain.

In a bid to keep fans of both shows happy, ITV has pushed Love Island back by an hour and confirmed to The Sun that it will now start at 10pm.

However, should the match run into extra time and penalties there would still be an overlap.

Coverage of the football showpiece begins at 6.30pm on ITV and is scheduled to run through until 10.45pm. Though the game itself will be wrapped up by 10pm if it ends in normal time.

Last night’s Love Island was also pushed back by an hour, and the Three Lions did reality fans a favour by scoring in stoppage time to see off the Dutch.

Aston Villa strike Ollie Watkins scored a superb strike to send England through to their second consecutive Euros final where they will be underdogs against a strong Spanish side.

But that doesn’t matter one bit to England fans who erupted in the stands in Dortmund and on sofas around the country at the final whistle.

Some 21.6 million viewers across TV and streaming watched ITV’s coverage of the game.

It is the highest peak audience on a single channel since December 2022, when the nation watched England’s quarter final exit to Croatia in the FIFA World Cup.

Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand was one of the lucky people inside the stadium last night and he filmed the aftermath of Watkins’ goal.

In raucous scenes in the stands, Rio celebrated in front of former England boss Fabio Capello and Arsenal legends Arsene Wenger and Sol Campbell.

And just a row in front of the sportsman was none other than Adele, who looked to be relishing the jubilant scenes.

The singer is in Germany ahead of her Munich residency next month which will see her perform 10 shows in a purpose built 80,000 seat stadium.

One fan commented on Instagram: “Wenger, Big Sol and Adele I was not expecting to see in the same video ha.”

Another said: “Rio, Wenger and Adele all in the same spot.”

A third wrote: “Is that Adele?”

A fourth joked: “It’s a 1-2-1 formation of Adele up front. Ferdinand & Campbell midfield with Wenger at the back!”

England's route to the Euro 2024 final

ENGLAND began their Euros final campaign in Germany on June 16.

Here’s their route to the final:

June 16 – vs Serbia: England win 1-0 with a goal from Jude Bellingham in the 13th minute.

June 20 – vs Denmark: Ended 1-1 after Harry Kane’s 18th minute strike was cancelled out by Morten Hjulmand.

June 25 – vs Slovenia: The match ended goalless but England topped the group with five points.

June 30 – vs Slovakia: In the last 16 clash Jude Bellingham saved England from being knocked out with a 91st minute equaliser. In extra time Harry Kane secured the win for the Three Lions.

July 6 – vs Switzerland: The quarter-final ended 1-1 after extra time with Bukayo Saka‘s reply to Breel Embolo’s strike. England won 5-3 on penalties.

July 10 – vs Netherlands: Another last gasp goal – this time by Ollie Watkins – saw England head into the final against Spain. Harry Kane scored from the spot to cancel out Xavi Simons’ 9th minute goal.

July 14 – vs Spain: England are in their first final on foreign soil and will be hoping to see off the challenge of Spain who won the Euros in 1964, 2008 and 2012.
