SC summons Chief and finance secretaries of 16 states for non-compliance of pay panel's report

The Supreme Court in India has summoned the chief and finance secretaries of 16 states for non-compliance with the Second National Judicial Pay Commission's recommendations on pension and retirement benefits for judicial officers. The court, led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, stated that the court would not send the chief and finance secretaries to jail but would require them to be personally present. The court directed the top two bureaucrats of 16 states to appear before it on August 23.
