The Red Sox originally were supposed to send a triumvirate to Texas next week, but now only two players will be making the trip from Boston.

Jarren Duran and Tanner Houck will both be on-hand at Globe Life Park to take in MLB All-Star Game festivities for the first time in their respective careers. Rafael Devers was selected to play in his third Midsummer Classic, but he will stay behind to nurse a nagging shoulder injury.

Speaking with the media before Wednesday’s loss to the Oakland Athletics at Fenway Park, the Red Sox third baseman opened up about the ailment.

“It’s been bothering me, but I’m that person (that) I’m not going to be talking about it every single time,” Devers told reporters, per The Boston Globe. “I know what I’m dealing with. I know what I need to do to stay on the field and that’s what I’ve been doing the past few weeks. But I do believe that those three days are going to help me to be in a better position for the second half.”

Devers has remained a lineup fixture for the Red Sox despite the injury, as he hasn’t missed a game since June 9. The 27-year-old also has managed to remain very productive, batting .344 with three home runs and 13 RBIs through eight games this month.

So, we probably can expect more of the same from Devers until he takes a well-deserved break. The Red Sox and their franchise cornerstone will be back at it Thursday night when they wrap up their three-game series with the A’s.

NESN’s complete coverage of the finale begins at 6 p.m. ET.
