Experts slugfest: Our final 2024 Emmy nominations predictions

Will “The Bear” explode in nominations for Season 2? (Probably.) Will “The Morning Show” finally get its first drama series nomination? (Yes.) Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here with their final Emmy nominations predictions.

After winning 10 Emmys, including Best Comedy Series, for its maiden season, “The Bear” will likely expand in nominations for its even more acclaimed sophomore installment. But is it strong enough to pull in a coattail nominee like Molly Gordon in supporting actress? Or will “Hacks” score a coattail with Meg Stalter after its excellent third season? And could both Meryl Streep and Janelle James be snubbed?

SEE Experts slugfest: ‘The Bear’ Season 3 is here — how will Emmy voters respond (for Season 2)?

“Shōgun’s” shift from limited has shored up spots in lots of drama categories, but both supporting races still feel volatile. While eight of “The Morning Show’s” 11 nominations have been for acting, the show has yet to break into the supporting actress category, where it could pull four bids this year since everyone not named Elizabeth Debicki feels vulnerable. Debicki, the overwhelming favorite to win, was the only acting nominee for “The Crown” last year. How much will the royal drama rebound for its final season in a weaker field?

Elsewhere, we are flummoxed by the equally chaotic limited/TV movie races.
