Lamborghini owned by British pop star for 25 years goes up for auction at unbelievable price

A LAMBORGHINI that was owned by a British pop legend for 25 years has gone up for auction at an unbelievable price.

The star bought the 1977 classic on a tour of Australia and had it shipped to his LA pad when he was done.

The Lamborghini Countach only came out three years before this bright red version was snapped up by musical legend Sir Rod Stewart.

The Hot Legs singer couldn’t resist the allure of the stunning supercar and even brought it back to blighty with him when he moved back from the States in the early noughties.

Sir Rod is a renowned petrolhead and collector of luxury cars, owning one of just 400 Ferrari Enzos ever made.

Indeed, just a couple of years ago he personally filled in potholes near his home in Essex as they risked damaging his stable of Prancing Horses.

He parted ways with the Lambo after a quarter of a century back in 2002 even after it was specially modified by Albert Madikian Engineering in California.

The motor was subsequently converted to left-hand drive and taken back to America and underwent a full remodel in 2022.

This particular Countach is the exceptionally rare Periscopio version, of which only 150 were made in a limited run from 1974-78.

Inside it is trimmed in stylish Tobacco leather and appears to be in pristine condition.

The calico dashboard doesn’t have a mark on it and the retro Lamborghini Raging Bull logo is proudly embossed in gold at the centre of the steering wheel.

The listing on Bring A Trailer states: “Chassis 1120262 left the factory in right-hand-drive configuration and was purchased new by best-selling British pop musician Sir Rod Stewart while on tour in Australia.

“The car later moved with Stewart to Los Angeles, where it was modified with a wide-body kit and a targa-style roof panel before being relocated to the UK and remaining in Stewart’s private collection until 2002.

“Finished in Rosso over Tobacco leather, the car is powered by a 3.9-litre quad-cam V12 that is equipped with six Weber carburettors and twin-distributor ignition.

“Additional features include a five-speed manual transmission, a limited-slip differential, four-wheel coil-sprung independent suspension, four-wheel ventilated disc brakes, Campagnolo 14” alloy wheels, Stewart-Warner gauges, and air conditioning.”

The auction is set to conclude this evening and the current bid stands at over £400,000.

It comes after Wheeler Dealer’s host Mike Brewer gave fans a rare look inside his beloved family car as it hit a significant milestone.
