Following his loan spells to Brentford and Manchester United, Tottenham are willing to accept a big loss upon their initial investment for Sergio Reguilon.

Reguilon hasn’t played for Tottenham in two years

There was plenty of excitement when Spurs initially forked out around £25 million to sign Reguilon from Real Madrid (TransferMarkt), just weeks after the Spaniard had won the Europa League during his successful loan with Sevilla.

Mourinho and Tottenham welcomed Reguilon as well as Gareth Bale in the same week, with many fans feeling it was a statement double-deal from the club.

Reguilon struggled to nail down a spot in the team and departed on loan to Atletico Madrid in the 2022/23 season after the left-back had fallen behind Ben Davies and Ryan Sessegnon in the pecking order under Antonio Conte.

Reguilon ended his season playing consistent Premier League football this season while on loan with Brentford for the second half of the season after Manchester United terminated his loan in January.

According to AS in Spain, Ten Hag would be keen to sign the defender this summer with West Ham and Juventus also reportedly sniffing around the 27-year-old.

Tottenham have loosened their demands for Reguilon

It appears as though a move for Reguilon could be financially viable for the Red Devils too as Football Insider reports that Daniel Levy, perhaps uncharacteristically, is willing to accept a cut-price of £10 million for the full back this summer.

Spurs are believed to be keen to get Reguilon’s, whose wage according to Capology is £53,000-a-week, off the books with the ex-Real Madrid player only having a year left on his deal and therefore being able to depart for free next summer.

Reguilon’s energy when he first signed for Spurs gave me promise that the player, who was only 23 when signed, would develop and be moulded into a top-level left back.

Unfortunately, I think Reguilon has been a victim of the revolving door of managers at Spurs with Antonio Conte’s three-back system effectively leaving Reguilon with no option but to depart on loan.

This summer is however Tottenham’s last chance to cash in which they must now feel they can do with his decent performances for Brentford and Manchester United keeping the Spaniard’s market value.
