Manhattan man arrested in connection to fentanyl-laced pill

MANHATTAN (KSNT) - On Thursday, the Riley County Police Department (RCPD) announced a man was arrested in connection to a 2022 incident when officers responded to an unconscious 22-year-old.

Around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10 an 18-year-old Manhattan man was arrested for distribution of a controlled substance causing great bodily harm and aggravated battery, recklessly causing great bodily harm in the 1000 block of S. Seth Child Rd.

The arrest came from an investigation where a 22-year-old victim had ingested a fentanyl-laced pill that caused him to go into respiratory arrest. The RCPD said the suspect's bond was set at $150,000 and he is currently confined. The investigation is ongoing.

"Investigations into all other Fentanyl-related overdoses in our community remain active and ongoing as well. Any individuals possessing pertinent information are urged to come forward and assist law enforcement authorities."

In May, RCPD Director of Police Brian Peete told 27 News the department is trying to fight the spread of fentanyl in the community.

“When anyone sees something within the community that can potentially cost someone their life, say something about it,” Peete said earlier this year. “You may think that it’s not your business, but it’s incumbent upon all of us to keep our community safe.”

Manhattan has made a series of fentanyl-related arrests since 2019. In 2019, more than 50 people were charged in connection to a fentanyl/heroin bust.

On Feb. 14, 2023, three people were taken into custody in Manhattan after a search warrant discovered more than 300 fentanyl pills.

On May 2, 2024, a 21-year-old Manhattan man was arrested in connection to allegedly distributing drugs that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old woman that happened in May 2023.

On May 17, 2024, a man was arrested after police found a substance suspected to be fentanyl in his backpack. The backpack had drugs that tested positive for methamphetamines. Other drugs found were suspected to be fentanyl.
