Downtown Albany gift and home goods shop up for sale

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- July 10 marked seven years for the Fort Orange General Store at 412 Broadway in downtown Albany. That same day, owner Schuyler Bull announced the business had been listed for sale.

"Over the years, I’ve been able to balance store duties with a full-time job and personal life," said Bull. "However, as my husband and I plan to grow our family, we recognize it’s time to seek a new owner who can continue our mission and lead the store to greater heights."

The Fort Orange General Store opened at its current location in 2017 selling home goods and homemade gifts from up-and-coming designers, artists, and small companies. Fort Orange was the original name of the first permanent Dutch settlement in New Netherland, which is the present-day home of Albany.

The business is listed with Jesse Tranvaag of Berkshire Hathaway Blake Realtors for $160,000. Only the business is for sale and the lease for the space expires in May 2027.

According to the listing, the Fort Orange General Store has been profitable since 2018 and had a gross revenue of $369,000 in 2023. Rent for the 2,000 square-foot space is currently $2,171 each month. If interested, you can view the full listing on the Flexmls website.

Until the business is sold, Bull said the Fort Orange General Store will remain open. The shop is open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday through Monday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
