Man Utd agree deal to sign Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee, who is set to become the first signing of the Sir Jim Ratcliffe era.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, United won’t be paying the £34 million release clause but will pay a little more than his initial valuation and spread the outlay over three years.

The payment structure was crucial for United, considering that they’re still treading a tightrope with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Zirkzee has been a long-term target for United and manager Erik ten Hag, and the club have finally wrapped up a deal for the exciting Netherlands international.

The versatile forward has agreed a five-year deal to join the Red Devils until 2029, with the option of an additional 12-month extension.

The 23-year-old will become the club’s first signing of the summer transfer window and will complement Rasmus Hojlund in the United attack.

The former Bayern Munich striker is predominantly a striker, but he’s versatile enough to excel in other attacking roles. He will undergo medical examinations on Friday.

Zirkzee was in exceptional form for Bologna last season, notching 11 goals and five assists in 34 league outings. His exceptional technical qualities contributed to his success in Serie A.

With the deal to sign Zirkzee now wrapped up, United will turn their attention to Bayern defender Matthijs de Ligt, who is close to completing a move to Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old has given United the green light for a transfer, and he could follow his former Bayern teammate to the Theatre of Dreams in the coming days.
