James Maddison took to social media to express his delight for Ollie Watkins after the Aston Villa striker netted a late match-winner for England in their fixture against the Netherlands.

Maddison would have felt slightly hard done by at being left out of the England squad for Euro 2024, having been part of Gareth Southgate’s set-up all the way through qualification.
Despite the heartbreak, however, much like the rest of the country, the Tottenham player has been rooting for his teammates to bring the trophy home, with the Three Lions having the chance to make history in the final against Spain on Sunday.
England’s passage to the final has been far from straightforward, with the Three Lions winning by the skin of their teeth on more than one occasion.
The midfielder will be looking for an England recall next season
That was once again the case in the semi-final at Westfalenstadion, with Watkins coming on as a late substitute in place of former Spurs talisman Harry Kane and netting a 90th-minute winner to help the side book their place in the final.

Watkins would actually be the ideal striker to lead the line in Postecoglou’s system but there is no chance that Spurs would be able to get him out of Villa, especially after Unai Emery’s side secured Champions League qualification.
