Terrifying moment tornado from Hurricane Beryl remnants rips roof off home
The first hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season has dissipated, but its fierce remnants produced a tornado that ripped a roof off a home and other devastating weather.
Severe storms from the remains of Hurricane Beryl struck Arkwright in western New York on Wednesday, tearing apart buildings and ripping up farmland.
A video filmed from inside a home showed an enormous funnel cloud barreling toward another house across the street. As the tornado-looking system got closer to the home, it lifted a large chunk of the roof off and into the air.
More miscellaneous debris was seen flying as people could be heard nervously reacting in the background, shows the video obtained by WKBW.
The video pans somewhere else momentarily and after re-focusing, shows the twister moving away down the road.
Brandon Mead told the TV station that none of his family members, whose property is along Henry Road, were injured.
It was one of four tornadoes reported in the Buffalo metro area within a two-hour time frame. Two of them were EF-1 tornadoes and two were EF-0’s, according to the National Weather Service.
There were no fatalities, but several people suffered minor injuries, WIVB reported. The town of Eden was under a state of emergency.
‘Significant damage has been incurred at a number of farms, especially barns which are a total loss, and animals are injured,’ wrote Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday afternoon.
‘Thankfully there are no reports of human injuries.’
Meanwhile, remnants of the hurricane brought heavy rainfall and intense flash flooding to Vermont and killed at least one person on Wednesday night. Cops recovered the body of Dylan Kempton, 33, on Thursday morning, said Governor Phil Scott.
Before reaching the Northeast, Beryl made landfall in Texas early this week and left almost 2million people without power, and wrecked many neighborhoods.
