Japan, Philippines sign defense pact in shared alarm over China

MANILA, Philippines: Japan and the Philippines have signed a significant defense agreement that allows Japanese forces to deploy for joint exercises in the Philippines and vice versa.

This landmark Reciprocal Access Agreement was signed on July 8 by Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro and Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa in Manila, with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in attendance.
