LeBron James on how he will treat Bronny on Lakers: 'I'm going to hold him accountable...I can separate dad from teammate'

LeBron James said his son shouldn’t expect any preferential treatment. “It’s going to work just like any one other of my teammates,” he told Craig Melvin in an exclusive interview that aired July 11 on TODAY. “I’m going to hold him accountable, and he should hold me accountable when I do things not right. I can separate dad from teammate. And, I think, as he continues to grow, and as he continues to learn, I hope he’s able to separate son from teammate, as well.”

More on this storyline

Coach K: “Talking about LeBron, probably he and Steph are the two leaders?” Grant Hill: “I’d say the two unofficial captains, if you will. … The conditioning, the professionalism, the energy that you talked about, they have been absolutely fantastic. And I will say, we know their legacy, we know what they’ve done throughout their careers, and the fact that at this point they still want to come back, it speaks about the experience. It speaks about their experience with you, playing for you. It speaks about USA Basketball overall. And I will say this and I really believe this, that for both of them, they were a part of USA Basketball before they learned how to be NBA Champions.” -via Twitter @SiriusXMNBA / July 11, 2024
“But at the end of the day, it won’t be no shortcuts, that’s for sure. I don’t hold anybody to shortcut standard when it comes to the game of basketball and somebody being around me on a day-to-day basis.” -via Today / July 11, 2024
The Summer Olympics head to Los Angeles in 2028. And while James recently signed a two-year extension to remain with the Lakers, don’t expect him to be in the City of Angels during the next Games. “No, I won’t be there,” he said. “I’m getting the hell out of that city when the Olympics come to Los Angeles,” he added, laughing. “All right, I’ll live there all year. I will not be in Los Angeles in ‘28. I’m getting out of there.” -via Today / July 11, 2024
