Opelousas woman claims she was scammed by local petting zoo

Guidry-Payne said she reached out to the petting zoo in March and paid the money in April for the petting zoo to be a special guest at her family reunion.

OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY)-- Opelousas native, Makeba Guidry-Payne, said she paid $560 to have the petting zoo, 2KB Farm and Petting Zoo, for a family event on June 15, but said the petting was a no show.

Guidry-Payne said she reached out to the petting zoo in March and paid the money in April for the petting zoo to be a special guest at her family reunion.

She said she posted a picture on social media of the alleged scamming and said she has received a lot of attention from people in the area. She said she expected a refund, but it has been a month, and still no answers.

"I had been continuously texting this lady and she was giving me the runaround, about oh she couldn't this, or she couldn't that", Guidry-Payne said. "She was supposed to meet me, her son was in an accident, it was just outrageous."

She said she has filed a report with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office. Since filing the report, she said she has received only $460 back, not the full amount. She said she wants justice for all people who have experienced being scammed.

"People don't work for no reason, people work for their hard-earned money", Guidry-Payne said. "The last three days this has been a lot, people have contacted me, my phone is not stopping, the only thing I want to see is justice."

Guidry-Payne said she is seeking to file a civil suit against the petting zoo. News 10 reached out to the owners of the petting zoo who say they cannot comment on the situation because of the pending civil suit.
