Man pleads guilty to murder of former girlfriend
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A man who was charged in the stabbing death of his former girlfriend pleaded guilty to murder and abuse of a corpse Wednesday.
Chance Donohoe called 911 officers in August 2023, telling a dispatcher he had killed his former girlfriend, court records state. He was arrested and accused of fatally stabbing 29-year-old Shannon Hiott, with Donohoe later telling police he had done so because of their recent breakup.
Although Donohoe faced at least six counts in his indictment, the guilty plea only included two: aggravated murder and gross abuse of a corpse. According to court documents, the guilty plea replaced a previous not guilty claim.
According to court documents, Donohoe faces an imprisonment term for the murder charge anywhere from 20 years in prison to life without parole. He also faces up to 12 months in prison for abuse of a corpse, which could be served consecutively with any imprisonment time served for murder.
Donohoe is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 8 for his sentencing.
