Gautam Gambhir Wants Vinay Kumar as Team India’s Bowling Coach, BCCI Interested in Zaheer Khan – REPORT

A source also went on to reveal that the Indian board is not too inclined on lapping up Vinay Kumar as the head coach.

Mumbai: Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as Indian cricket team’s head coach following Rahul Dravid’s exit. Seems like problems have already started. It is believed that Gambhir wants former India cricketer Vinay Kumar as the bowling coach, but, the Board of Control of Cricket in India want World Cup-winner Zaheer Khan to take charge. A source also went on to reveal that the Indian board is not too inclined on lapping up Vinay Kumar as the head coach.

“BCCI discussing the names of Zaheer Khan and Lakshmipathy Balaji for the position of bowling coach. BCCI is not interested in the name of Vinay Kumar,” sources told ANI.

It would be interesting to see if Zaheer can take up the role as he also has broadcasting commitments. The next few days would be interesting to see if BCCI budge under pressure or get their way past Gambhir.

So, what would be the expectations from Gambhir?

Solid Working Relation With Kohli: It is no secret that Kohli and Gambhir have had a rough past despite hailing from the same state. The reason – both are super competitive. So, first up, all eyes would be on the relation Gambhir and Kohli share. If that is taken care off, then most things will fall in place.

WTC Title: After reaching the summit clash on two consecutive occasions, India failed to cross the final hurdle. In case, India make it to their third final, the expectation would be that they turn third-time lucky. Gambhir would be expected to help the side overcome the final hurdle.
