Man Utd handed major transfer boost in race for Euro 2024 star as Premier League rivals withdraw interest - report

Man Utd handed boost in Dani Olmo race as Man City & Chelsea rule out bid

Manchester United have been handed a major transfer boost in the race to sign coveted RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo.

Interest in the 26-year-old forward has intensified after his outstanding performances for Spain at the 2024 European Championship in Germany.

Manchester City, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Barcelona have all been credited with an interest in Olmo, who is poised to leave Leipzig this summer.

However, journalist Ben Jacobs reports that the Premier League champions have ruled out making a move, and the Blues are also not considering a bid.

Despite watching their Premier League rivals withdraw from the race for Olmo, United will still have to rival Bayern and Barca for his signature.

The former Dinamo Zagreb star has a £50 million release clause in his Leipzig contract, but interested clubs have until July 20 to trigger the clause.

After three and a half years at the Red Bull Arena, Olmo has opened the door to a potential exit in search of a fresh challenge abroad, and United are one of the teams interested in signing him.

Leipzig are unlikely to negotiate a lesser fee for the Spaniard, given he still has three years left on his contract.

Barca have already opened talks with Leipzig, but they’ll struggle to raise the funds to complete a deal and would need a generous payment structure to proceed.

Bayern are also interested, but United will fancy their chances of beating the Bundesliga giants to Olmo’s signature.

However, considering his poor injury record, the Red Devils may be better off looking elsewhere for attacking reinforcement.

The Spaniard missed 29 games for club and country due to injuries last term. He was also sidelined for 20 and 19 games, respectively, in the previous two seasons.

Despite his undeniable quality as a versatile attacking midfielder, his injury record should be enough to ward off United from acting on their interest.

Olmo has been a standout performer for Spain at the Euros. He has scored three times, provided two assists and created three big chances.
