They’re Only Following Orders

Long ago, when I was a prosecutor in the Organized Crime and Racketeering Section of the U.S. Justice Department, I had the privilege of working with a number of very smart, skilled, and highly experienced investigators.

One of them, Al, had served in General Patton’s fabled Third Army as it fought across Europe and into Germany. Since he had been born in Bavaria and immigrated with his parents to the United States when he was a child, Al spoke fluent German. Consequently, the Army assigned him to the Counterintelligence Corps interrogating German P.O.W.s.

But, once the Third Army crossed the Rhine into Germany, Al’s unit was tasked with rounding up Nazi officials and war criminals.

As he explained it, he and his fellow Nazi hunters were given a thick binder titled the “SHAEF [Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force] Book” which contained biographies of their targets. It was organized by towns and localities so that, as soon as a particular area was taken, the counterintelligence agents would have the names, addresses, and identifiers of the Nazis in that area.

He described how his unit hunted down, arrested, and interrogated their prey.

“And you know what?” he laughed. “When we began questioning them, they all had the same story: Who me? A Nazi? Mein herr, you’ve made a mistake. I hated Hitler!”

Most of the time, under questioning, the story would change to something like “Okay. Maybe I was a member of the Nazi party, but I had no idea about the concentration camps and these other terrible things you’re asking about.”

Their collective mantra boiled down to “We had no idea.”

But, for those who admitted knowing about or participating in the atrocities, their defense was simple: “We were only following orders.”

I can’t help but think of Al and his fellow Nazi hunters as I watch the gobsmacked corporate media’s feigned surprise and consternation in the wake of Joe Biden’s protracted brain freeze during the recent presidential debate. Deprived of a teleprompter, for 90 minutes Biden spouted gibberish and stared blankly at his opponent before 51 million viewers.

So it was that, for the Democrat National Committee and its corporate media arm, the jig was up.

After covering for Biden since the 2020 presidential campaign, the media are now doing backflips and slapping their foreheads in amazement.

Biden’s a vegetable? Without a teleprompter he talks gibberish? He’s a drooling wax dummy? We’re totally surprised!

We had no idea!

Now, as if on command, the previously compliant, somnolent corporate media have turned on Biden and are suddenly scrutinizing him and raising questions about his fitness for office. Ever since the 2020 presidential campaign, they have mocked anyone who has dared question Biden’s mental acuity. Even as Biden hid out during the 2020 campaign, and subsequently tripped, fell, shouted angrily at the clouds, and otherwise exhibited all the hallmarks of a debilitated old man in decline, the media challenged us.

Move along. Nothing to see here. Who are you going to believe? Us or your lying eyes?

And now we, the great unwashed public, are supposed to believe that the media haven’t been a critical component of the conspiracy to cover up the fact that a dangerously deranged mental incompetent has occupied and continues to occupy the Oval Office while purportedly being in charge of our national security apparatus — nuclear launch codes and all.

Recognize that this shift of focus by the propagandists of the corporate media is not motivated by embarrassment at having been exposed as charlatans. That would require having the properly formed moral conscience of a normal human being and the ability to suffer shame.

No, the media have changed course because their orders have changed. Biden has become a political liability to the media’s Democrat masters, so he has to go.

The media will continue to pretend that they had no idea that Biden was a cognitively impaired mental defective. But make no mistake, they have turned on Biden — not out of concern for the welfare of the nation — but because they’ve received a new mission. They must do their part to rid the Democrat Party of the Biden problem.

You see, they’re only following orders.
