‘It’s uncomfortable’ says Naga Munchetty as she clashes with Charlie Stayt on BBC Breakfast

BBC BREAKFAST took a tense turn as the show’s presenters found themselves with differing opinions on a topic.

Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty were back on the famous red sofa for Friday’s (July 12) episode.

Among the news waking up the nation was that organisers of The Big Butterfly Count are urging people to get involved.

A charity, Butterfly Conservation, uses the day to work out how many butterflies there and where they live in the UK.

The overall day entails volunteers spending 15 minutes in an outdoor environment, while counting the amount of butterflies they see, as well as their appearance.

Following a short clip, host Charlie said: “There could be worse things to do for 15 minutes then just stare at a butterfly. I think it would be quite relaxing and quite nice.”

Fellow host Naga replied: “You’re not supposed to stare at just the one.”

Continuing, Charlie remarked: “You could just do that anywhere to feel good.

“You could do the survey, that sounds great, but just take a moment to look a butterfly doing its business.

“It would be nice wouldn’t it?”

Naga disagreed: “I don’t think you should go around scaring butterflies personally, staring and making them feel uncomfortable.”

Afterwards, Charlie got co-star Carol Kirkwood involved in the debate too.

The weather presenter opined: “I think it is a relaxing thing to do. It’s like fish just swimming in a tank for an example.”

It comes as the familiar pair made their return to BBC Breakfast after it was axed in a huge schedule shake-up.

In a rare move, the show was pulled from the schedule last week in light of the General Election.

The flagship morning offering is often aired every single day all-year round.

Who are the current presenters of BBC Breakfast?

The flagship BBC show has had dozens of presenters during its impressive 40 years on air but the current stars are:

Jon Kay – Since 2022

Sally Nugent – Since 2021

Charlie Stayt – Since 2006

Naga Munchetty – Since 2014

Carol Kirkwood – Since 1997

Naga and Charlie made their triumphant return to the sofa last Saturday (July 6), with normal service resuming.

However, one viewer was left slightly amused by the length of his suit trousers.

They wrote on X: “Did Charlie Stayt get 10% off his trousers, he seems to be missing some off the bottom of the leg.”

BBC Breakfast airs on BBC One and is available on BBC iPlayer.
