Man Utd ‘let rivals overtake them in transfer race for £100m Joao Neves’ and it could help them land another target
MANCHESTER UNITED have decided against making a huge offer for Benfica midfielder Joao Neves… a move that could help them sign Paris Saint-Germain star Manuel Ugarte.
The Red Devils are keen to bolster their squad this summer after a dismal 2023/24 campaign.
Casemiro and Christian Eriksen could both be on their way out of Old Trafford to make way for new signings.
And Erik ten Hag has been linked with a move for Benfica and Portugal man Neves, 19, who scored three goals and assisted two in 55 games for his club side last season.
He also played 77 minutes for his country at Euro 2024, but looks set to join PSG instead of Man Utd.
According to Ojogo, the Ligue 1 champions are preparing to offer £75million plus an unnamed player to sign Neves.
That is a huge increase on the £50m Man Utd put on the table, as per Abola.
Man Utd won’t attempt to match that deal, instead focusing on Uruguay star Ugarte, 23, who helped his country to the semi-finals of the Copa America, reports claim.
The defensive midfielder started 21 of PSG’s league matches last season, providing three assists.
But he may be allowed to leave the French capital should Luis Enrique’s side secure Neves’ signature.

Ugarte is the latest transfer target for Man Utd in recent weeks.
They are looking at signing defenders Leny Yoro and Jarrad Branthwaite from Lille and Everton, as well as Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt.
