ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The City of Albany and Titan Roofing are working to repair the storm-damaged St. Joseph's Church steeple. The steeple was damaged in the microburst storm on June 20 in Albany.

Crews will begin work Friday to stabilize the steeple, remove loose elements, and install a rain and ice shield to protect it from further weather damage. The City of Albany says they will warehouse any historic elements of the steeple that are removed until the church is sold.

“St. Joseph’s Church is an important part of our city’s history and that is why we have worked hard to find the right partners who can preserve the steeple and stabilize the structure," said Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan. "I want to commend our Director of Infrastructure, Martin Daley, for taking the lead on this restoration project as well as our City Engineer, Howard Goebel, our Commissioner of Neighborhood Services, Faye Andrews, our Director of Buildings and Regulatory Compliance, Rick LaJoy, our Commissioner of General Services, Sergio Panunzio, and their entire teams for working closely together to secure the building and develop a plan that will fix and preserve the steeple. I also want to thank Historic Albany Foundation for their assistance in identifying potential contractors who could assist with this intricate and important project.”
