Emma Stone (‘The Curse’) aims to finish half her EGOT at the Emmys, but she’s got fierce competition

Emma Stone is looking to land her first Emmy nomination for her starring role in the Showtime drama series “The Curse.” Coming off her second-Best Actress Oscar win this year for her role in “Poor Things,” she could quickly get halfway to EGOT.

Should she prevail she’d be the third actress to win Oscar and an Emmy in the same calendar year. Helen Hunt won the Best Actress Oscar in 1998 for “As Good as it Gets,” and then won the third of her four Emmys for “Mad About You.” Helen Mirren claimed the Oscar for “The Queen” in 2007 and then Emmy a few months later for “Prime Suspect: The Final Act.”

“The Curse” made its debut at the New York Film Festival on October 12, 2023, then premiered on Showtime and Paramount+ on November 12, to critical acclaim. Stone has already received nominations for “The Curse” from the Golden Globe Awards and the Gotham Awards.

If Stone wins Best Drama Actress at the Emmys next, she will only need a Grammy and Tony to close out her EGOT. Stone’s Emmy however, won’t come easy. She currently ranks fourth in Gold Derby’s combined predictions at 11/2 odds and is faced with tough competition. Jennifer Aniston is currently leading the odds for “The Morning Show,” followed by Anna Sawai at number-two for “Shogun” and Imelda Staunton in third position for “The Crown.” Though perhaps Stone could cash in on her goodwill from her very fresh Oscar win this past March.

Though Stone is no stranger to television, this marks one of her highest-profile roles on the small screen, and she has an additional chance to become an Emmy nominee: she is also credited as one of the executive producers of “The Curse” and thus would score a nom if the program contends for Best Drama Series as well.

Emmy nominations are unveiled on July 17 at 8:30am PT/11:30am ET. Assuming Stone makes the cut, we’ll learn on Sunday, September 15, at the 76th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards if she takes her first Emmy home.
