Samsung’s hidden ‘deep sleep’ button gives you instant battery life boost – you can still use phone with small downside

A SIMPLE Samsung feature gives you an instant battery life boost – if you know where to find it.

The button you’re looking for is tucked deep into your phone’s settings, so it’s easy to miss.

It’s called Deep Sleep, and it’s a way to limit what your apps are doing in the background.

Samsung explains: “The more unused apps there are running in the background, the more power your battery will use.

“Background usage limits can be set to reduce battery consumption.”

To find the feature, you’ll want to go into Settings > Battery and Device Care.

Then tap on Battery > Background Usage Limits and choose the app that you want to just.

There are four settings that you can choose from.

First up is a toggle option called Put Unused Apps To Sleep.

This is a great way to generally improve battery life as it automatically sleeps apps if they haven’t been used for a while.

Then there are three lists: Sleeping Apps, Deep Sleeping Apps, and Never Sleeping Apps.

You can add any app to a list to affect how it works.

For Sleeping Apps, they’ll stop running in the background.

Deep Sleeping Apps will never run in the background under any circumstance, and only work if you open them.

And Never Sleeping Apps is for when you don’t want an app to be automatically set to sleeping mode.

BATTERY BLUNDERS

There are some other big reasons why your battery may be struggling.

If you’ve recently bought the phone, then that may be the simple explanation.

Samsung explained: “In the first few days after purchase, users usually activate many applications and set up different features. The frequency of background operation is optimised in this time.

“Battery usage time may seem shorted than on your previous device. However, this is part of the setup phase of your new phone.

Samsung charging tip – how to charge best

Here's Samsung's official advice...

To get the most out of your smartphone’s battery, you’ll need to charge it properly.

Most Smartphones have a lithium-ion battery that lives longer when charged regularly.

Unlike the nickel batteries used in older phones, lithium-ion batteries do best when kept above a 50 percent charge.

Repeatedly allowing the battery to drain fully may shorten its life and decrease its overall capacity.

If this happens, you’ll need to charge the battery more frequently and it may last only a few hours before needing a charge, for example.

Leaving the phone connected to the charger (when the phone is completely charged) while you are using it may lower battery life if you do it repeatedly.

“Keep using the device normally; charge it when the battery drains and allow a few days for all background operations and syncing to complete. After this, your device’s battery will be at its highest potential.”

Similarly, the way that you’re using data can also seriously affect battery life.

For instance, if you’re in an area with poor signal then this can put strain on battery life.

And if you’re using 5G, your phone will also drain the battery faster, Samsung warns.
