Radio 1 DJ lands huge new job with world famous stars a year after scandal that saw her kicked off air for ‘being drunk’

A RADIO 1 DJ who was kicked off air last summer for clashing with a station co-star has landed a massive new gig.

Arielle Free, who hosts the Thursday night dance show, has been named as one of Swedish Hose Mafia’s supporting acts for their six-week residency at Ibiza’s Ushuaia club.

The 36-year-old will join the likes of Amèmè, Bonsu, DJ Gordo and Jaguar among others on the White Isle this summer.

Dance giants Swedish House Mafia – Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Axwell – have been nominated for two Grammys and have had five top 10 singles in the UK.

Arielle recently married her long-term boyfriend George Pritchard in a stunning Ibiza wedding.

The happy couple were joined by Radio 1 co-star Vick Hope and her DJ husband Calvin Harris at the intimate ceremony.

DJ Fat Tony made sure the reception was in full swing as he took to the decks for the afterparty.

While former Towie star Jake Hall was also in attendance.

The wedding guests were treated to stunning views of San Antonio’s coastline at the Cala Gracioneta restaurant.

Arielle’s husband also works in the music industry and is the Director Of Events & Talent at Defected Records.

MIXING IT UP

Back in February, Arielle made a big career announcement.

The star revealed she was quitting her early morning show and would be on air just once a week.

She stepped down from the Early Breakfast slot last month and has been replaced by Dean McCullough.

Arielle now hosts a revamped dance show on Thursday nights which she said allows her to focus on her love for the genre.

“Six years of getting up at 3am, it can take its toll and although I’ll miss the daily Disconaps, I’m hoping I’ll stop falling asleep everywhere I go,” she said.

“I live and breathe dance music in all its many wonderful forms and I really want to make my new show the best showcase of what’s lighting up the dance floor as I possibly can.”

Chaotic Ibiza broadcast

Last summer Arielle was suspended last summer after being pulled off air and told to “have some respect” during a chaotic Ibiza broadcast.

The former Love Island: The Morning After podcast host joined Radio 1’s Dance Anthem host Charlie Hedges on her show as a guest on July 29 in the party hot spot of Ibiza.

Arielle decided to tell Charlie what she thought of her show, leading some fans to accuse her of being drunk.

She said: “Can I be honest with you Charlie?… I expected better of you… I don’t like this song.”

“Oh really?,” Charlie replied. Arielle continued: “I hate it!”

Charlie butted in, saying in reply: “Sorry I’m taking your mic down, it’s my show Arielle, have some respect please.

“See you later. Get out of here.”

At the time, a spokesperson for Radio 1 said: “Whilst we would not comment on individual matters, we have strict codes of behaviour for staff and presenters, and any breaches are taken extremely seriously.”

Arielle was a guest on the show as part of a scheduled appearance.
