AirBnb Jay Slater visited before vanishing is listed for rent again
The AirBnb where Jay Slater was last spotted before going missing is back on the market.
Jay, 19, went to the cottage in Masca, Tenerife, with two men he met during a night out before vanishing nearly a month ago.
His disappearance sparked a huge manhunt across the Spanish island, which was called off on June 30 after police were unable to find any leads.
The apprentice bricklayer, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, left the cottage in the early hours of the morning on June 17 and was never seen again.
The site, around 10 hours away from where Jay was staying with friends, is located in the middle of the remote Rural de Teno National Park and surrounded by vast, rocky terrain.
After leaving the house, Jay made a brief call to his travel companion Lucy to tell her he was lost before his phone died, and was last seen walking uphill in the mountainous area.
Following his disappearance, the property has been off the market, but has now been quietly relisted on Booking.com.
Furthermore, the cottage appears to be fully booked for the near-future, prompting speculation it has been rented out by people aware of the Jay Slater case and the notoriety of the property.
In the aftermath of Jay’s disappearance, amateur sleuths flooded the area and visitors have been seen taking trips to the area and treating the site as a dark tourist attraction.
The room was previously rented by Ayub Qassim, who took Jay back to the flat following a night out and has been deemed ‘not relevant’ to the case by Spanish Police.
Qassim told reporters: ‘I let the geezer stay at mine because he had nowhere else to go.
‘His friends had all left him.
‘I know Jay, through friends, I’m not going to bring someone back to mine if I don’t know them.
‘I’m doing the geezer a favour and now my face is all over the news. It’s a bit mental. I haven’t even done anything.’
He added: ‘The only comment I have to make is that Jay came to the house alive, and he left the house alive.
‘If I’d fallen out with him would he even come to mine?
‘There were no problems. You’ve seen the last images of him with his red blanket around him.
‘I don’t know if he had beef elsewhere because I don’t know him that well, I only know him through friends.’
Although the Spanish police have called off the search, Jay’s parents have not given up hope of finding their son, and a slew of amateur detectives still remain on the island searching for the missing teen.
