Jessica Plummer, 31, shot to fame when she played Chantelle Atkins in the long-running BBC soap.

Her EastEnders character was killed off when she was brutally impaled on a knife in her dishwater at home.

This was after she was physically abused at the hands of her serial killer husband Grey (Toby-Alexander Smith).

Now, she looks worlds away from Walford in the brand new trailer for the period comedy, The Decameron.

Alongside Jessica, the show stars the likes of Amar Chadha-Patel, Tony Hale, and Sex Education star Tanya Reynolds.

In the trailer, she was seen in a variety of rabid slapstick scenes, dressed head-to-toe in a crimson Italian period dress, a far cry from the markets of Albert Square.

Her afro hairstyle from her London character has been transformed into light curls, pinned up at the back in an up-do.

She plays the character of Filomena, who has been described as a, “spoiled oddball with a chip on her shoulder”.

It’s set in the Italian city of Firenze in 1348, amid the horrific outbreak of the Black Plague, one of the most deadly pandemics in human history.

The global streaming platform has given viewers more insight into the comedy series.

It read: “As the bubonic plague spreads through Italy, a group of nobles and servants retreats to a villa, where their lavish getaway quickly spirals into chaos.”

According to The Express, the series has been likened to a historical version of the hit ITV2 series, Love Island.

The actress previously spoke about the sexual nature of the programme.

She told The Telegraph: “Like Love Island, but back in the day. A lot of drama, a lot of sex, a lot of, yeah, craziness.

“I always told myself I wanted to try comedy, because I wanted a break from dying!”

The Decameron is out on Netflix on July 25 2024.
