New principal selected for Fort Riley Elementary in Junction City

JUNCTION CITY (KSNT) - Geary County Schools announced Friday morning it has approved of the hiring of a new principal for Fort Riley Elementary.

The USD 475 Board of Education said in a press release on July 12 that Kimbre Smice will serve as the new principal for the school. She will replace former principal Kenny Upham who moved on to become principal of the Business, Public Service and Hospitality Academy at Junction City High School.

Smice has a wealth of knowledge and experience coming from her time in leadership positions such as assistant principal, SIT coordinator and 504 coordinator at Ware Elementary. She has also spent time working at Fort Riley Middle School, Seitz Elementary, Fort Riley Elementary and Ware Elementary.

USD 475 said Smice graduated from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois in 2011. She later received her master's degree from Kansas State University in 2019.
