Request for use of Visitors' mooring in August - by: Julian & Margarette Parlett
Hello all,
I received a request via the SYC website for the use of the visitors' mooring for an undefined period, perhaps a couple of weeks more or less, in August. The request was from Tom Welch and his wife who have a 19' Cornish Shrimper. They live in Barnstaple and are members of the North Devon Yacht Club but wish to trail their boat to SYC in order to spend a couple of weeks or so exploring the area. I met them at SYC today and they seemed a very pleasant couple of semi-retired grand-parents whose grand children are starting to enjoy sailing.
I have spoken to Sarah and to Robin about this and we are all of the opinion that we would like to help but feel that we should make a charge for this. The club has no temporary membership that would be appropriate so I'm wondering if we can agree a price for this, payable in advance to avoid a problem of someone agreeing a payment and then leaving without paying! Perhaps a payment of, say, £10 per night or £50 per week? Possibly a bit more or a bit less? Generally visitors to other places pay a bit more for a pontoon with walk ashore, and various prices from £0 upwards for a visitor mooring. The Cornish Shrimper is a fairly small boat so I don't think we ought to charge too much. They would have a loan of a card for access and would be able to use our showers etc as well as parking.
Do please let me know:-
1. if you are happy with this and
2. your thoughts on what we should charge.
Many thanks
Julian
