Stade Rennais sporting director Frederic Massara has insisted that Desire Doue does not want to leave the club and that the Ligue 1 side could turn down any offers that arrive for the French starlet this summer.

Tottenham have an interest in Desire Doue

The speculation linking Doue with a move to Tottenham has gone into hyperdrive over the last couple of weeks, with a number of sources naming the Lilywhites as one of he leading contenders for the 19-year-old’s signature.

This includes a recent update by Fabrizio Romano, who said on his YouTube channel that Spurs are one of three clubs plotting a move for the versatile attacking midfielder.

On Sunday, The Sun claimed that Tottenham are extremely keen to complete a swift deal for Doue, having identified him as a ‘top priority’.

The outlet asserted that Ange Postecoglou‘s men as well as Chelsea were both locked in negotiations with Rennes and want to finalise the transfer by next week.

However, Massara has now warned Spurs and other interested clubs that Doue will not be sold on the cheap and that the player is happy to remain at Roazhon Park.

Doue will not be sold on the cheap

When asked about the speculation over the midfielder’s future, he said (via BavarianFootballWorks): “Today, Stade Rennais has the means to say no to any offer. If huge offers come to the table, that needs to be considered case by case. Today there are no offers.

“The player has no desire to leave, there are no negotiations at the moment. Having the chance to have talents observed by the whole world and bringing big offers is truly fortunate.”

The wording of Massara’s statement is quite telling. Far from ruling out a potential sale this summer, what he is saying is that low-ball offers will not be accepted by Rennes as Doue’s camp are not putting any sort of pressure on the club to agree to a transfer.
