'Idiot' Tommy Tuberville dogpiled for boasting about funds from bill he voted against

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) took to X on Friday to triumphantly announce the securement of $550 million to upgrade a bridge on I-10 from Mobile to Baldwin County — one of the largest federal grants ever given to an infrastructure project in Alabama.

"Proud to announce that the Mobile River Bridge and Bayway Project will be receiving a $550 million grant from the Department of Transportation," wrote Tuberville. "This is a HUGE WIN for Mobile, the state of Alabama, and the entire Southeast region."

There's just one problem, a number of commenters on social media noted: Tuberville voted against President Joe Biden's landmark bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) that made this grant possible in the first place.

"My Alabama colleagues like @SenTuberville are right — this is a MAJOR win," wrote Rep. Terri Sewell (D-AL). "It’s a shame he voted against the bill that made it possible. As Alabama’s only Member of Congress to vote FOR President Biden’s Infrastructure Law, I’m proud to see these funds coming to our state!"

"Sheesh…taking credit for a bill that you NOT ONLY VOTED AGAINST, but that ONLY ONE Congresswoman from AL voted FOR is NASTY WORK!!" wrote Tashi Davis, a former Democratic congressional candidate from Maryland. "Even for someone low enough to hold up military advancements WITHOUT EVER SERVING! Maybe someone should approach Coach Saban for the next run!"

"This you?" wrote the account @StefManack, posting a screenshot of an article that quoted Tuberville blasting the IIJA as loaded with "giveaways to big cities and pet projects that have little to do with real infrastructure."

"Coach Tubby is celebrating the passage of something HE HIMSELF voted against. Useless," wrote Rev. Dr. Marvin Tiller, Jr., a minister at the Temple Baptist Church of Chester, Pennsylvania.

"Funded by the Infrastructure Bill you voted against, but sure, pat yourself on the back," wrote the account @spacenerd07.

"Now announce where the funding came from, and announce how you voted on that funding," wrote the account @Glenn_OBX. "'Another project to rebuild Alabama' signs all over the state. None of them explain how the projects were paid for or that all Republicans voted against the funding."

"Tommy Tuberville VOTED AGAINST this!!!" wrote the account @tlc4sam2 on Friday. "But President Biden works for ALL Americans! Congratulations, Alabama! Your President represents YOU, even though your SENATOR is an idiot!"
