Deputy, suspect involved in shooting outside Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center identified

The Clackamas County Sheriff's deputy involved in the shooting of a man outside of the Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center in Clackamas last month has been identified.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) --  The deputy and suspect involved in an officer-involved shooting on June 28 at Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center were identified by Clackamas County officials.

According to the Clackamas County District Attorney, patrol deputy Steven Tucker shot 25-year-old Joseph Brasuell outside the hospital on June 28 after he rammed multiple patrol cars with a stolen vehicle, officials said. Brasuell was taken to a hospital where he remains in serious condition.

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said they were notified just before 6:30 p.m. by the Portland Police Bureau that a suspected stolen car was being tracked by the police’s air unit and that the driver entered Clackamas County. PPB reported to the sheriff’s office that the person was driving recklessly and trying to elude officers. The suspect vehicle then entered the Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center’s parking structure, prompting a lockdown of the facility during the incident, officials said.

The suspect vehicle, a white Kia Sportage, was located by deputies and the PPB air unit that responded to the scene. The sheriff’s office said the vehicle then “began ramming multiple responding patrol vehicles” and that the driver was eventually “shot by a deputy.”

No member of law enforcement was hurt nor were the passengers in the vehicle.

Deputy Tucker was placed on paid administrative leave, per standard policy.

This case will be presented to the Clackamas County Grand Jury to rule on whether the use of force was justified.
