Mayor Adams voices support for Biden amid president’s campaign concerns

NEW YORK (PIX11) – New York City Mayor Eric Adams voiced his support for President Joe Biden on Friday as the president faces mounting pressure from other Democrats to drop out of the presidential race.

A growing number of Democratic lawmakers have called on Biden to not seek reelection ever since the president’s poor performance in the June 27 debate against former President Donald Trump.

Biden has faced questions about whether he has the mental fitness to serve four more years as president. Democratic leaders in New York are split on whether Biden should be the party’s presidential nominee in November.

“One thing I know about this type of work is that you never quiet the noise. This is the nature of the beast,” Adams told PIX11 News. “I’m a supporter of the president. I’m a soldier. Give me my marching orders. I am pleased with so many things he has done while he was in office, including the economy, public safety stuff.”

Adams said he would vote for Biden as a superdelegate in the Democratic National Convention in August when the party officially nominates its presidential candidate.

“I think that [Biden] has to make the decision personally on what he wants to do and then the party must come together. We operate within the party system, and that’s where the determination is made,” Adams said.
