Columbus teens explore career opportunities with help from Boys and Girls Club

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- The Boys and Girls Club of Central Ohio is partnering with local organizations and businesses to show local teens a multitude of career options for after high school.

They started at Huntington Bank in Columbus on Friday to learn the ins and out of banking. The bank's leaders gave a presentation and a tour for the kids, showing them a little about the culture at the company and how many different career options there are in banking.

In addition to learning about becoming a bank teller, teens also explored opportunities in sales, mergers and acquisitions, information technology (IT) and more. They also sat down with Huntington leaders to learn about how to make an impressive résumé and how to prepare for a job interview, whether for a career in banking or other opportunities.

Most of the kids came into Friday’s experience without much knowledge about banking, but many said that the day at Huntington peak their interest.

“I hope I definitely learn more about not only Huntington but banks in general and how they work and the structure of it,” Boys and Girls Club participant Jalik K. said.

He said he wants to apply the things he learned to real life skills.

Banking was just the first industry the Boys and Girls club teens visited. They’ll also be able to attend events throughout the month showcasing careers in STEM, business and aviation.
