Everton nearing agreement with Tottenham over revised payment structure for Alli transfer

Everton nearing agreement with Tottenham over revised payment structure for Dele transfer

Everton are on the cusp of finalising an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur over a revised payment structure for Dele Alli, according to The Athletic.

The 28-year-old midfielder became a free agent at the end of June after his initial contract expired, but a new deal at Goodison Park could be on the horizon.

The agreement that saw Alli move from Tottenham to Everton in 2022 included performance-related add-ons, with Spurs due a hefty sum if he signed a new contract with the Toffees.

However, with his initial deal expiring, those clauses became a hurdle for any potential extension. The Athletic reports that positive discussions are underway between the two clubs to agree a revised deal.

Everton are seeking a revised payment structure that would pave the way for them to re-sign Alli if they choose to do so.

As part of a potential agreement, Tottenham are likely to retain a sell-on clause that guarantees them a chunk of the pie if Alli departs Everton for a transfer fee in the future.

Everton avoided paying a £10 million transfer fee for Alli after the midfielder failed to meet the appearance target set in his contract.

He only managed 13 appearances across all competitions for Everton before his contract expired at the end of last month.

Since joining Everton, Alli’s career has been plagued by injury setbacks.

A prolonged hip injury he suffered during a loan spell at Besiktas in 2022 has kept him sidelined for nearly a year.

Despite being without a contract, the midfielder is currently working on his rehabilitation at Everton’s Finch Farm training ground, and there’s a possibility he could feature in the club’s pre-season plans.

Meanwhile, Everton have missed out on Hull City winger Jaden Philogene, who is set to re-join Aston Villa.

The Toffees were locked in a three-way race to sign the talented winger alongside Villa and newly-promoted Ipswich Town, but the player has decided to join Unai Emery’s side.
