'Baby mamas': Ex-lawmaker confronts 'religious conservative' Ben Shapiro on Trump support

Two politically opposed guests sparred on Real Time with Bill Maher Friday night, with CNN contributor Bakari Sellers, a former representative from South Carolina, taking media host Ben Shapiro to task over his support for Donald Trump.

Maher's show also featured an appearance by former GOP lawmaker Kevin McCarthy. Maher put McCarthy on the spot, declaring that democracy should be here to stay.

After that interview, Maher turned to a panel that included Sellers and Shapiro.

Sellers was attempting to explain what Democrats are doing regarding President Joe Biden when he suggested that Democrats "fall in love" while religious conservatives "fall in line." He asked if it was fair to call Shapiro a religious conservative, and Shapiro agreed, after which Sellers hit him with Trump's well-known list of various misdeeds.

Sellers said Trump has "five children by three baby mamas," that he was "found liable for sexual assault," and noted that the ex-president "has 34 felonies" from a case out of New York. Sellers pointed out that Shapiro and others are still rallying behind Trump, and Shapiro largely agreed with his interlocutor's characterization.

It didn't take long for social media to weigh in on the TV battle of wits.

@Ambienbrain said, "Only watched because Bakari was on. He shut Shapiro up many times."

@jurutha noted that, "Both Shapiro and Maher were way out of their league, intellectually. Bakari had them both stuttering because he brought FACTS."

@SchneiderStache said, "I'm just grateful that [Sellers] did most of the talking and spared us from Ben Shapiro's sociopathic mental gymnastics about why America needs to elect an orange Nazi rapist."
