St. Martinville developing vision plan with hopes of growing the city

This plan will allow the city to expand with more facilities, such as hospitals, restaurants, businesses and homes.

ST. MARTINVILLE, La. (KLFY)-- The city of Saint Martinville is seeking to grow over the next few decades. To accomplish this, they are developing a comprehensive vision plan.

This plan will allow the city to expand with more facilities, such as hospitals, restaurants, businesses and homes. La Louisianne consulting is partnering with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, who will be responsible for the technical components of the plan, including detailed drawings and design.

Mayor Jason Willis said he is excited for the project, as he said it will grow the population in St. Martinville.

"We want to bring a plan to them", Willis said. "We want to make our city grow, it depends on the population".

St. Martinville is also known for its tourist attraction. With the new vision plan in motion, city councilman Mike Fuselier says he wants to the increase the city limits.

"I think we can also be a bedroom community for Lafayette," Fuselier said. "We have a quaint small town with small town values and I think people living here and working in Lafayette or New Iberia would be a good fit, we want to expand our borders, enlarge our city limits."

Mayor Willis said while this project will take some time to be completed, he says it will be the start of keeping the rich history for future generations.

Community meeting and listening sessions will be held starring next month, for residents to give their input on the plan.

"Their great grandkids are going to be growing up," Willis said. "What we do want is people to come back twenty years from now and say this is the same old Saint Martinville."
