Collapse of school roof in Nigeria leaves 22 dead

International media reported that at least 22 people lost their lives, and dozens more were rescued from the rubble after the collapse of a school building in Nigeria.

Reuters stated in a report that the incident occurred on Friday, July 12, at a school in Saint Academy in the Jos North area of Plateau State.

According to reports, out of the 154 students trapped under the rubble, 132 have been rescued.

Nigerian authorities have indicated that the incident happened during an examination at the school, with rescue teams working to save trapped students.

Details about the cause of the collapse have not yet been fully disclosed, but local residents attributed the collapse to heavy rainfall over the past three days.

Unfortunately, buildings collapse due to poor-quality construction materials and inadequate maintenance, common occurrences in the country.

Previously, in 2021, at least 45 people lost their lives when a multi-story building under construction collapsed in Nigeria.
