Emerson Royal could be set to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer, and the Brazilian has opened up about the close connection he shares with one club teammate that he would particularly miss if he were to depart.

Royal helped Richarlison through a tough time

It’s no secret that Royal and Richarlison are close, with the compatriots often spotted together in photos and videos shared by the club.

Speaking to reporter Rodrigo Castro for Brazilian media outlet EPTV (via Rede Globo), the full-back discussed just how important his friendship with Richarlison is.

“[He] is very special. He’s a very good kid, with a huge heart. We got really close last year,” Royal said. “He had problems with his manager and was feeling really bad, he isolated himself from everyone… I was one of the people who managed to help him.

“I did psychological counselling, and that helped me a lot. I improved as a person. I told him about my experience and told him to try the same. We had lunch and dinner together. I took him out of the house.

“Being alone in this situation is really bad. It’s clear that he’s a different person now. It’s a great joy to see [him] like this today.”

Royal went on to highlight how important it is to talk about your mental health and to seek help from those around you.

Royal’s time at Spurs could be coming to an end

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move away from Tottenham this summer, and has already made his intentions clear that he expects regular first-team football next season.

It will be a real shame to see Royal and Richarlison separated as they clearly have a great friendship, but it doesn’t matter where they play, I’m sure they’ll remain close.

Regardless, Royal has to get this transfer done this summer for the good of his career since he has little chance of reclaiming his spot ahead of Pedro Porro.
