Last month hottest June ever in Cyprus

June 2024 was the warmest June ever recorded in Cyprus, the met office announced.

Temperatures recorded in Cyprus this June were extremely high, both the daily maximum and daily minimum temperatures, as well as average daily temperatures.

For 15 of the 30 days in June the met office had issued a yellow or orange warning for extremely high temperatures.

In addition, for one day in mid-June there was a red warning for extremely high temperatures, while for another two days in June, there was a yellow warning for thunderstorms.

June was also very dry due to very low rainfall recorded.

According to the met office, July and August are set to be events of stormy activity in the afternoon hours inland and the mountains.

July in Cyprus is expected to be normal in terms of temperature, while rainfall is expected to be below 75 per cent of the average, although increased rainfall is forecast in the northeast of the island.
