Tottenham have been handed a blow in their pursuit of Youssuf Fofana, with Fabrizio Romano now revealing that the AC Monaco star is edging closer to a move to AC Milan.

Romano delivers update on Youssuf Fofana

Tottenham have been linked with a whole host of midfielders over the past few months, with Fofana being one of those mooted as a target for the Lilywhites.

The 25-year-old is thought to have admirers at the North London club, with the print edition of Corriere Torino (via Sport Witness) claiming last month that Spurs are battling Juventus, AC Milan and West Ham for the player.

The report added that the Les Blues star has just a year left to run on his contract with Monaco, the Ligue 1 club would be willing to sell him for around €20m-€30m (£17m-£25.3m) this summer.

Football Insider also subsequently backed up Tottenham’s interest in singing the midfielder but they revealed that Milan had moved into pole position to land the player.

If Romano’s latest update is to be believed, Fofana has now agreed personal terms with the Rossoneri ahead of a potential move to San Siro.

The journalist claims that the Monaco star is now prioritising a switch to Paulo Fonseca’s side despite attracting interest from other clubs.

He adds that the Frenchman’s agent has informed the principality club about his client’s desire to join the Serie A giants.

Interestingly, Romano’s update does not indicate that Milan have reached any agreement with Monaco on a transfer fee for Fofana, which potentially leaves the door open for Spurs and other sides to hijack the deal.
