Tottenham Hotspur have let a number of top players leave the club over the years, but one player is now excelling in Scotland, and has been described as the ‘best’ in his position for his club now.

Cameron Carter-Vickers one of the top defenders in Scotland

That’s according to Scottish football pundit, Roger Hannah, who has been singing the praises of Celtic defender, Cameron Carter-Vickers, and suggested the SPL giants could turn a profit if they were to sell him now.

Hannah told Clyde 1: “Cameron Carter-Vickers, again a loan, Celtic then again pushed the boat out, £6 million-ish for Carter-Vickers.

“But he is now, by far and away, Celtic’s best defender and if they decided they wanted to sell Cameron Carter-Vickers tomorrow, then they would make a profit on that £6 million.”

The American defender came through the academy at Tottenham, but only made five senior appearances for the Lilywhites before moving on permanently.

He now has 115 appearances for Celtic, and has won seven trophies during his time up in Scotland (Transfermarkt).

Carter-Vickers enjoyed plenty of loan spells during his career, but has really found his feet at Celtic.

This is not the first time the centre-half has received high praise. CBS Sports reporter, Charlie Davies, described Carter-Vickers as the best player in the SPL, while former Rangers striker, Kris Boyd, compared the USA international to Virgil van Dijk (Sky Sports).

Carter-Vickers might come back to the Premier League

Fabrizio Romano claimed several Premier League sides were interested in signing Carter-Vickers (House of Champions), and it has even been suggested that Ange Postecoglou might look to bring him back to Spurs, too (The Sunday People).

Cameron Carter-Vickers is, sadly, one of those players that was simply never going to make an impact at Spurs and he had to be let go. It’s great that he’s done so well at Celtic since leaving, but that doesn’t mean that we made a mistake or that he would have been as good had he stayed with Spurs.
