Report: Alasdair Gold reveals surprise new interest in Emerson Royal amid AC Milan bid rejection

Emerson Royal is on AC Milan’s right-back shopping list
It was revealed back in early June by Gazzetta Dello Sport that AC Milan would be seeking a new right-back to sign this summer.
Aston Villa’s Matty Cash was the other name of interest, however, a move for Emerson Royal was favoured with the Italian side believing a move for him would be cheaper than Cash.
An additional factor is that Fabrizio Romano reported Emerson has already agreed to a five-year deal with Milan and wants to switch to Serie A.
The same report from Romano last week (7/7/24) stated that AC Milan would send a new bid for Emerson next week and that the proposal would be in excess of €15million.
Although the report claimed Milan were now working with confidence and hoping a deal would be secured in the coming weeks, a fresh update has suggested that Emerson’s switch isn’t quite completed yet.
Tottenham have rebuffed AC Milan’s offer with Dortmund also keen
A new update provided by Alasdair Gold via X on Friday afternoon (12/7/24) has revealed that Tottenham have turned down a formal offer proposed by AC Milan for Emerson Royal.
The grounds for the rejection stated were that the club are holding out for €20 million, at least, and if the bid was reflective of Fabrizio Romano’s tweet last week, Milan are still €5 million short of that valuation.
Gold also surprisingly revealed that AC Milan has potentially another club eyeing up Emerson in Borussia Dortmund who are also keen on signing the ex-Barcelona defender, according to Alasdair Gold.

The Emerson Royal saga has dragged on for a long time, especially for a player who has publicly stated his desire to depart in order to be given regular game time. (Globo)
However, Tottenham are likely being smart in rejecting this formal offer if it is lower than €20 million.
Emerson has Premier League experience and is clearly being chased by not just AC Milan, it’s often the way with Italian sides that they drag transfers out, but I do believe that Spurs are within their rights to wait this transfer saga out with it likely they’ll receive their desired offer of €20 million one way or another.
