Three-story warehouse to come down in Albany after fire

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A three-story warehouse building in Albany will have to come down following a heavy fire that started Friday night and continued to burn into the early hours of Saturday morning.

Albany Fire Chief Joseph Gregory said his crews were dispatched to 20 Learned Street at 10:41 Friday night and arrived at the scene minutes later. They found a heavy fire condition through a three-story warehouse.

According to Gregory, heavy timber construction and a rubber roof were a hindrance to firefighters, making the operation very labor intensive.

The fire was under control by 1:54 A.M., Gregory said. No civilians or firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The building was deemed unsafe by Buildings and Regulatory Compliance Department due to the heavy fire damage, and the building was slated to be taken down.

Friday's blaze comes a few months after another warehouse district fire, also on Learned Street.
