Denver Nuggets rookie and former Dayton star DaRon Holmes II suffered a torn Achilles in his first Summer League game Friday night, according to reports.

Holmes jumped to defend a pass with just over 4 minutes left in the game against the Clippers, landed awkwardly and fell. He remained down for several seconds as play continued before getting up and limping badly. He left the game on a dead ball a few seconds later and ESPN reported that Holmes left the arena on crutches.

“I don’t even know what to say,” the Millenium Nike team wrote on Twitter. “My heart aches for you @DaRonagon and your family! You are the hardest working player we have ever had. You will come back bigger, faster and stronger !!! I have no doubt! You have the love and support of the whole community in Arizona, Denver and Dayton and the rest of the world! We feel this with you and are hurting with you. We are here for you and anything you need! Love you man!

The 6-foot-8 Holmes did not miss a single game during his time at Dayton and will now miss the upcoming season.

The Arizona native was the No. 22 pick in last month’s NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns before being dealt to Denver.

He averaged 20.4 points and 8.5 rebounds last season and was named the co-Atlantic 10 Player of the Year.
