'World-class' star now wants transfer to Man Utd, agent has already informed his club - report

Manchester United are preparing for a busy phase in the summer transfer window and they could make multiple signings over the forthcoming weeks.

The club have so far reached an agreement to sign Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee. The Dutchman is likely to be announced as a new player very soon.

Christian Falk now reports that United are lining up a move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney and the Englishman also wants to join the Red Devils.

The 28-year-old has already informed Brentford of his desire through his representative.

Toney to Man Utd would be a surprise

Zirkzee recently put pen-to-paper on a long-term deal with United. The Dutchman should provide quality competition to Rasmus Hojlund up front.

Toney has now been linked with a transfer, but we don’t see a deal happening unless manager Erik ten Hag has plans of changing his formation.

Ten Hag has preferred to operate with a 4-2-3-1 set-up, but the arrival of a second striker this summer could see him shift to a double six formation (4-2-2-2).

The tactic worked with good effect in the final three games of last season including the FA Cup final where Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay played up top.

Even then, United may need to recoup funds first, considering Brentford reportedly value Toney at £60 million. It may take around £40m to sign him, as per The Athletic.

Toney, who has been described as ‘world-class‘ by manager Thomas Frank, would be a surprise signing for United, but we can’t completely rule out a summer transfer.

There are several other English clubs also interested in the Northampton Town graduate, but United have a clear edge with the striker reportedly holding out to join them.
